A Burden For the Future Generations. - Neang Phearun's testimony

In April 2013 I met teacher In Thon and teacher Heng. They had used to work for AOE school (a school in Siem Reap, Cambodia) but unfortunately it closed because of a financial crisis. These two teachers with amazing dreams approached me. They said that they wanted to start an extracurricular school in this village. I agreed that it was a good idea. I had a burden and worry about the future for Cambodia's poor children and young people if they could not afford to study further due to their poverty.

We found a good place to rent to start the school. We had to ask for permission from the village chief to start a school.  Initially it was a bit hard as he did not know us or our background and we were very new to him. We kept praying and persevering. At our third request he agreed for us to start an English school. With this approval, we started the construction of Hope School. Soon we built two classrooms on the ground level of the house that we rented the land from.

Hope School started in June 2013. It is run by three Cambodia volunteer teachers. Our original school is situated in Siem Reap province. Our initial enrollment had about fifty students with several Buddhist monks among them. Praise the Lord! We were so excited! With these great encouraging results, I began to write a project proposal looking for some support from local church members. That was how the school was continued to be funded and supported in the beginning.

Knowing that what we do is making a difference in the future generations of Cambodia is what keeps me going and doing a good work at Hope school. Through this, it will give New Hope to all children and young adults.
