Graduation Ceremony! (December 2014)

In December 2014, a team of young Singaporean volunteers flew to Siem Reap, Cambodia to teach the students of Hope School and attend their first ever inaugural graduation ceremony. Most of the volunteers were first-timers to Hope School but everyone had a great and enjoyable experience. Many friendships and smiles were forged during this trip, and the volunteers received a lot more than they have given.
Preparations happened from the first day at the school till the actual day of graduation. The turnout was massive and it was really encouraging to see so many people coming for this first graduation ceremony. There were simple games that entertained everyone. We learnt that some of the students were brought to a nearby vocational school to learn traditional dances a few days ago, and they performed for everyone on the graduation ceremony itself! Some of the younger students also performed 2 English songs with great enthusiasm and fun! Teacher Thon shared on the vision and mission of the school, and the village chief shared his happiness with everyone. Charlyn gave a short speech on congratulating the graduating students and encouraging everyone to study hard. Gifts were presented to the village chief, Vansan, Arun and Thon too. 3 uniquely designed and hand-painted banners were also presented as additional gifts to the school!
Finally, the graduating students (about 65 of them) were then presented with a customized graduation certificate, a specially designed graduation badge and a sponsored pen from Cactus Press Button Company. The graduation badge was specially designed by Jacquelyn Yin, and they were sponsored by Sofia Goh. At the end of the ceremony, each student were invited to write their well-wishes, dreams and ambitions on the rainbow banner. Congratulations to all graduates!

Enthusiasm and Eagerness! (November 2014)

“Education is the key to unlocking the world, a passport to freedom.” - Oprah Winfrey

Many children in this village treasure the opportunity of learning English. Their hunger and enthusiasm can surely be seen through their concentration and eagerness to come to school. Truly this education here at Hope School is definitely giving them a better chance at unlocking the world, and their futures too!

School Resumes after the flood (October 2014)

After the rain and the flood, school has finally restarted again. Some of the tables and chairs are rotting and have broken down. Some of the students have not returned to class so the teachers are trying to contact them by phone. But nonetheless it is good to see the students returning again and for school to resume! Here are the photos of the school activities and the refreshments for the students.
