Education at Hope School
Mission
To provide good English language tuition that is affordable to Cambodian children and young adults. This will allow them to improve their English language literacy and their future career likelihood and in the course of that, to also reach out to their souls for the Lord Jesus Christ.
Location & Amenities of Hope School (Updated Apr 2023)
We are glad to announce that we are running 4 Hope Schools, namely Old Hope School, New Hope School, Hope School (Krobayriel) and Hope School (Ron Ta Ek). The schools cater to the children and young adults living in that area. The students generally travel to the school on their bicycles or motorbikes. Those who live nearer to the school walk there.
The original school is located on the ground floor of a residential house. The upper floor is lived and owned by the land-owner. The open ground floor is rented by the school.
The classrooms are paper partitions erected along the stilts of the house above. Tables and chairs are wooden planks nailed to the dirt ground. There is 1 light bulb installed for each classroom to accommodate for the evening English lessons.
There is only 1 full-time teacher teach English at both Old and New Hope School. The full-time teachers lives within the schools in either a small shed behind the classes or a room built to accommodate them. Another 2 part time teachers are employed to teach the kids in the evening at the other 2 schools.
We are thankful that we managed to buy a piece of land for another Hope School. We are now running a second Hope School.
Together with whatever finances we had and supports from friends and relatives, we managed to build a building without walls but with a roof for New Hope School. This enable us to conduct classes similar to the Old Hope School. Again we engage 1 full time teacher and am thankful for part time teacher who came to assist to take one or 2 classes at the New Hope School.

Needs of Hope School
Some of the past needs of the school were:
Some of the current needs of the school are:
- The need to buy a piece of land instead of renting. However, this need is currently met by a sponsor who provides the funding for the monthly rental of the school.
- The school is unable to provide any simple refreshments for the students. A sponsor from Singapore is providing USD$120 monthly for the refreshments - biscuits and hot beverages - for the students.
- The salary cost of having a full-time English teacher and a few part-time teachers. This need is currently supported by a sponsor who provides the monthly salary of the full-time teacher and 1 part-time teacher.
Some of the current needs of the school are:
- There are rainy and flooding seasons in Siem Reap, Cambodia. During these times, the school becomes flooded. The flood level is usually quite high. The teachers create a makeshift path for the students to reach the classroom without getting too wet.
- The lack of English teachers for the growing demand of students in Hope School and their extension school located 1 hour away from Siem Reap town.
Thanksgiving
Even though the school faces challenges, there have been people outside the school and church who are assisting to meet these challenges in order to allow the children and young adults to secure their opportunity in learning English:
- A one-time donation of folders containing biscuits, notebook and stationery to each student in Hope School in January 2014.
- A one-time sponsorship of a TV set, CD player, VCD & DVD player in January 2014.
- A one-time sponsorship of refreshment utensils in April 2014.
- Building roof for Hope School (Krbayriel) in 2021
- Started Hope School (Ron Ta Ek) in 2023.
- Providing tables and benches for Hope School (Krobayriel) in 2023
