Sofia Goh's Testimony (Volunteer of Dec 2014 Trip)
Passion. It is something so beautiful and powerful at the same time, almost like a fuel for anything at all. I strongly believe that at every phase of life, passion is needed not only to kick start something new, but also, to ensure its continuation. 2014 was a tough year for me, and passion was the word I could no longer use to describe myself as an individual. Then I saw Charlyn posted an invitation on Facebook, calling for “like-minded volunteers who are interested to volunteer and teach English to children and young adults in Siem Reap, Cambodia.”, Not knowing when the trip was planned to be, who I was going to go with, how many other volunteers there will be, I volunteered, almost impulsively. I knew that was passion.
Because I was the tasked to take photos during this trip when I had free time, please allow me to summarize this trip to Cambodia, Siem Reap through the photos, through my eyes.

“A school is an institution designed for the teaching of students under the direction of teachers” –definition of “School” taken from the net.
I have to say, my perspective towards education and schools have greatly changed; all else is not as important as the hunger in the student’s eyes, and the passion in the teachers’ eyes.
Can you see the passion we have to teach, and the hunger we have to learn, too? Hahas!
The knowledge of value is certainly as important as the value of knowledge.
The night never gets too dark; look how each one of them are shining.
That smile.
I exceptionally love the interaction between the little girl and the puppy; they were almost synchronized at where they were looking the whole time!
At that instance, we were more than ‘Teacher Sofia, Teacher Jamie, Teacher Riyin, Teacher Jac, and Teacher Charlyn’, we were classmates in Cambodia Siem Reap, Hope School. I am more than thankful for having the chance to meet each one of you, this amazing experience we’ve gained together, and glad how we worked through the small obstacles that came our way together. Now I genuinely understand what “like-minded volunteers” truly means.

A large number of student will fit in the definition of “School”, but Pastor Vansan, Arun, and Thon, your passion made this school more than just a school, you have made it Hope School.
